Daily Habit – 16″ x 18″ x 5″ – coffee stirs, newspaper, coffee chaff, tea leaves, cocoa, in an old drawer – 2014
We all have habits. Good habits, bad habits, habits that we learned from our parents, and some that are completely unconscious. And these habits create paths. They make tracks in the carpet around out house, wear the soles of our shoes unevenly, leave a trail in our checking accounts and browsing histories, and most importantly, they create and reinforce pathways in our brains. When we do, or say, or think, the same thing over and over again, it becomes that much easier to do, say, or think it.
The season of Lent is a good time to examine those habits of thought, word, and deed, and see if there are some that are creating paths we don’t necessarily want to be on. And Lent is also a good time to work on developing new habits; hopefully ones that bring us closer to God.
I love this article, and the idea of using Lent as a time to become more aware and conscious of the power of our habits. Thank you Janet!
